The Circle City (IN) Chapter is a local chapter of The Links, Incorporated. The Links, Incorporated is an international non-profit volunteer organization for African American women established in 1946. They are committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans. The Health and Human Services facet began in 2010 to address health care disparities in the African American community. The goal is to promote and facilitate programs to support good health and eliminate chronic health disparities in communities of color.
A joint collaboration was established with the Circle City (IN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, IU Health, and the Mid-North Food Pantry. The chapter has participated in the Black Kidney, Awareness, Resources and Education (K.A.R.E.) Initiative to provide information about chronic kidney disease (CKD) and modifiable risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes. The Mid-North Food Pantry mission to enhance the health of our mid-north neighborhoods is a perfect fit. Monthly screening sessions have been scheduled from October 2023 to Spring 2025 in conjunction with pantry hours. IU Health has performed blood pressure screening on over 200 clients and provided follow-up calls with community healthcare workers. Circle City (IN) Chapter of the Links’ goal is to see the clients where they are and offer information to improve their health outcomes.
