Our Garden
The garden at the Mid-North Food Pantry (MNFP) was established in 2014. Since then, it has given us hundreds of pounds of very delicious produce. In the 2016 season, the garden saw great expansion! First came the addition of a compost tumbler. Then in April, thanks to a generous donation from Lowe’s and several hard-working volunteers, we were able to expand the garden, nearly doubling the square footage. In August, an Eagle Scout delivered a durable wooden shed he constructed as part of his Scout project. In that season, we harvested over 220 pounds of fresh vegetables and herbs.
We harvest fully-ripe produce in the morning that clients get to take home the very same day. It doesn’t get any fresher than that. Thus, the garden at MNFP has become a valuable resource for essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients for the clientele who may not be able to afford enough without the help of the pantry.
Garden Sponsor
Tremendous thanks to the Northwest Indianapolis Lowe’s at 8440 N. Michigan Road for their donation of garden soil. Their generosity played a role in both the 2014 establishment of the garden and the 2016 expansion. We hope to continue fostering this relationship, so please take advantage of their friendly knowledgeable staff for your next home improvement project. Please tell them the Mid-North Food Pantry sent you!
